I proposed PGP but they were not interested in getting so complicated. Some time ago I found a book in a small store in Australia and ordered it by email but there was some problem with passing the credit card info, I forget exactly what it was, maybe they wanted me to scan it and send the picture, which I would refuse to do because there is no way I am sending a scan of my credit card in the clear. And I do not think I have been asked to send a fax in well over a decade. Then I gave up the land line and now I couldn't send a fax even if I wanted because it doesn't work over cell phones.

In this century I have sent very few faxes but when I needed to do it I would just generate the document using MS Word, or whatever, and fax it using the Windows fax app. PGP seemed like a great promise but my impression is that its use has, in fact, declined although I still use it. When I started using PGP, over twenty years ago, I was looking forward to the day when all email would be encrypted but that has never happened. They don't like getting spam any more than we do. When transmitting sensitive information you need end to end encryption and, while it is possible and could be done with email, it just isn't done with email so banks and other institutions resort to https sites where the user logs in and the channel is secure.Īnother reason they don't like email is spam. The problem with email is not anything to do with securing email servers, rather it is that email is transmitted and travels in the clear and anyone can read it along the way. I've not needed to send stuff like that for a looooong time, so was unaware that they have not yet found a way to "secure their mail servers" Lsemmens wrote: ⤴ Wed 8:21 pmI agree with their thinking. or phone fax app by copying the fax document to your phone.

Or, if you don't have a regular phone line.įaxbetter is an online fax service with free fax receiving and free fax phone number and various paid for options.Īnother option you might have is using the brother smartphone app. If you frequently send or receive faxes for personal or business use, then paying for an online fax service is well worth it. If you need to send more than a few pages, these will charge you a fee. If the fax is only a few pages, as has been suggested, then you can use one of the free online fax services to send it like faxzero. If you only fax once in a while, then I also recommend printing out the fax and using the Brother printer's built-in fax which works really well if you have a telephone line.

They do have outdated linux fax software which I have not been able to get it to work. I also have a Brother multifunction printer which I like, but like you I have not been able to fax from my Linux computer through it. I just read your post and the good replies to it.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Linux Mint and its excellent forum.
